How-To Guides
Guides and what to know about the cabin.
General Knowledge & Tasks
The cabin has:
- 3 bedrooms
- Full kitchen
- Bathroom
- Family room
- Dining room
- Telescope room
- Loft
- 2 TVs (VCR/DVD)
- Utilities: running water, electricity, heat, toilet, washer/dryer, shower, and fire pit
Activities in the area include: hiking, fishing, boating (row boat, kayaks & canoe), sightseeing, ATV trails, lake swimming, swing, fantastic views, and relaxation.
- Walk through cabin and dispose of any trapped mice (eating only in dining area and a thorough cabin cleaning, including storing perishable food properly, will keep the mouse population down)
- Reset mouse traps
- If there are mice, clean up mouse droppings
- Remove shoes and store in shoe rack when entering cabin
- Bring your own towels and bedding, although any items in the cabin can be used
- Please bring your own or replace the laundry soap at the cabin
- Take all dirty towels and bedding home with you that you brought
- Wash any towels, bedding, etc. used from the cabin
- Clean cabin, including sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, bathroom, kitchen, dining, etc.
- Close all interior doors
- Remove all perishable food from kitchen and refrigerator
- Turn off propane heater thermostat, close propane valve (no pilot light)
- Turn off all lights and electronics (outlet devices can remain in place)
- Take all trash with you and replace trash bags
- Lock all outside doors and sliding doors
- Replace door key in hidden space
- Make sure nothing flammable is near the heater & open gas line valve (red handle below heater)
- Set thermostat (gas control knob) to lowest setting
- Turn off all electric power to the appliance (if applicable)
- Push in gas control knob slightly and turn clockwise to "OFF". Do not force.
- Wait ten (10) minutes to clear out any gas. Then smell for gas, including near the floor. If you smell gas, STOP and follow safety instructions. If you don't smell gas, go to the next step.
- Find pilot — the pilot is attached at the bottom of the burner assembly
- Turn gas control knob counterclockwise to "PILOT"
- Push in gas control knob all the way and hold in. Repeatedly push the piezo ignitor button until pilot is lit (or use a match). Continue to hold the control knob in for about one (1) minute after the pilot is lit. Release knob and it will pop back up. Pilot should remain lit. If it goes out, repeat steps 4–8.
- Attention! Gas control has an INTERLOCK latching device. When the pilot is initially lit and the safety magnet is energized, the INTERLOCK becomes operative. If the gas control is turned to "OFF" or gas flow is shut off, the pilot cannot be re-lit until the safety magnet is de-energized (~60 seconds). There will be an audible "click" when ready. Repeat steps 4–8.
- Turn gas control knob counterclockwise to "HI"
- Turn on all electric power to appliance (if applicable)
- Set thermostat (gas control knob) to desired setting from "HI" to "LO"
- Set thermostat (gas control knob) to lowest setting
- Turn off all electric power to appliance if service is to be performed (if applicable)
- Push in gas control knob slightly and turn clockwise to "OFF". Do not force.
- Close gas line valve (red handle below heater)
